Island Unknown is a great little story that would make a great movie. The setting for Island Unknown is Florida (and what we now know as the Bermuda Triangle) in the mid 1800’s. Island Unknown is about a 15 year old boy, Peter, who is just about to become a fisherman. After building a fishing boat with his grandfather, Peter learns that his own father had not been lost at sea twelve years earlier, but died trying to find Spanish treasure on a mysterious island called Island Unknown.
While on his deathbed, the Peter’s grandfather has him promise to find the treasure sometime in his life. The story chronicles the perilous adventure Peter and his dog have while sailing to find Island Unknown. Peter must overcome the ridicule of local bully Leech Myers, a hurricane, and pirates to complete his quest.
"I highly recommend this book for children ages 8 through 12 who are imaginative, have a zest for adventure, and can handle some of the unfortunate realities of life. The book had an auspicious ending that left my niece asking many more wonder-filled questions. I can hardly wait to read Island Unknown's sequel with her."

This story was bought to read to my seven year old grandson. It is a very sweet story of a bygone age when young boys became men way too young. I highly recommend this book! Great read, sweet story.
